Family updates for retirement homes
Porchnote
Care staff share a photo from the day, and families see it that evening.

The problem
When a parent moves into a retirement home, their family often hears very little between visits. Staff would like to share the good moments, but they're busy, usually have one hand free, and have to respect which residents agreed to be photographed.
What we did
We designed the staff side first, because if posting is a chore nobody will do it. Take a photo, tag who's in it, write a line and post. Residents without photo consent can't be tagged, so staff don't need to check a list. Families get a quiet weekly feed, and residents get a large-print tablet view of their day.
The result
The design is done: 29 screens across four apps, in light and dark mode, using a typeface made for people with low vision. Porchnote is now moving into development.

Built for a busy shift
Posting an update takes a few taps and works with one hand.
Consent is automatic
If a resident hasn't agreed to photos, their name simply isn't available to tag.
Easy to read
The resident tablet uses large type and big buttons, sized for older eyes and hands.
